in the event of an emergency, hang up and call 911

I know there are a few of you who were wondering why I'm not at my regular haunts. Well, ok, I'm sure that none of you were, but I'm going to privilege you with that information anyway. Here is the poop, the skinny, the 411. I'm in Oklahoma City. Yes, the OKC. Why you might ask? My daring sense of adventure brought me here. Oh, and the fact that BYU-I's paramedic program has a deal here for our internship riding with the service EMSA. So every Monday through Thursday from 0530 to 1730 I am riding on the ambulance. Saving lives. Healing hurts. Kissing boo boos. I live with 3 girls all in the same boat. Annamarie Pontius, Emily Clark, and Elizabeth Summers. Emily is the only one of us poor females that is married, and sadly, he could not come with, so she is forced to move back in with a bunch of girls. She loves it I'm sure. All the other girls are on opposing schedules than mine so on my days off, they are all working. I sit in our apartment alone. A lot.... Needless to say I'm addicted to Hulu. (No seriously, I watch TV shows that I've never heard about and even ones that have subtitles.) This inspires me to share that our apartment is unfurnished and without cable/phone/internet. (but someone close to us does have internet....) We had to supply our own beds which everyone else is on air matresses. I'm on a cot with a king size memory foam topper on it topped off with two of my own memory foam toppers from my twin bed. My bed swallows you, and it is delightful. Thanks mom! We didn't live without for long. AMP (annamarie pontius) put an add up asking for anything and we now have some pretty sweet couches, a table and chairs and a pretty good sized TV (though not having cable is TORTURE).
Now onto the Ambi. My preceptor is very nice and VERY smart. He quizes me on things (often I don't understand the question so I have to give up and then he tells me the answer and I knew it, just the way he asks the question is confusing) so he makes me feel very smart... OKC is full of some really nice people, and a few crazies. I haven't had to intubate anyone yet (stick a tube in their throat and make then breath) but I have given a lot of D50 (or sugar) for low blood sugar and a lot of zofran (anti-nausea medication). People here get sick and vomit. It's gross. But it's a lot of good experience. Had a few overdoses and some car wrecks and a LOT of falls. OKC has an overabundance of sudden gravity vortexes that strike the unwitting elderly community. I have not had any dead people yet, thankfully.
My ADD is getting a hold of me so I have to throw in these points of interest before I must navigate away from this venture.
My phone committed suicide and I am without one until tomorrow. I could live without a phone, I've found, but I don't ever want to. Ever. I miss it.
Also, one of the boys whom I will not name, was found outside our complex passed out, in his medic uniform (because he had just been released from a shift) and they had to call an ambulance. They found he had low blood sugar and gave him some D50 and turned him loose. It's just kind of funny because the medics came for a medic. Ironic?
Ok, I'm bored and am moving on.... Loves!
